Argentina Information

Argentina is an immense country of incredible natural wonders and uninhabited wilderness. Its striking diversity and wide open spaces make it one of the most desirable adventure destinations in the world, and the bright lights of Buenos Aires, and quiet charm of Mendoza’s wine region hold an alluring appeal. The jungles and deserts of the North, the romance of the capital and the wild beauty of Patagonia and the mighty glaciers are just a few of Argentina’s many highlights.

Argentina General Information

Population
Approximately 40 million.

Capital
The first settlement of Buenos Aires was founded in 1536 by the Spanish aristocrat Pedro de Mendoza. However, this first attempt failed mostly due to bad organization and a lack of agricultural know-how. A second, and successful, attempt was made by Juan de Garay in 1580. Today the population is approximately 13 million.

Official languages
Spanish. There are also 15 indigenous languages spoken around the country, as well as some German and a small amount of Welsh.

Principal Exports
Agriculture, food processing, motor vehicles, consumer durables, textiles, chemicals and petrochemicals, printing, metallurgy and steel.

Argentina Weather information

Argentina is the second largest country in Latin America, stretching from the tropical jungles of its northern border with Brazil, to Antarctica in the far South. As such its climate and weather conditions vary greatly from region to region. Spring (Sep-Nov) is a great time to visit most of the country, while mid-summer (Dec-Jan) is the perfect time to head to Southern Patagonia. Autumn (April-May) is wine harvesting season in Mendoza.
