Northern Brazil´s Best Beaches

A mention of Brazil conjures up many images: the sprawling Amazon, non-stop parties, ludicrously talented footballers, samba and more. Perhaps the most enduring image, however, is the beaches. And what beaches. Golden sands, tropical flora, coconut palms, turquoise waters, all grouped together along one long stretch of impossibly gorgeous coast.

Some of the prettiest of Brazil’s beaches are to be found in the northern region of Bahia. Since winter is descending upon the Northern Hemisphere, we figure it’s pretty much the perfect time to start packing your bags, trading in the overcoats for swimwear and boarding a plane to one of Brazil’s most sun-kissed regions. Here are some of the best beaches in Bahia, as chosen by our beach-loving experts. We’re going to need a thesaurus for the words “idyllic” and “pristine”.

Praia de Forte

Live in Buenos Aires!

Praia de Forte was once an old fishing village and, even in its new incarnation as a sleepy holiday resort, it retains the rustic charm of its former life. Praia de Forte boasts 8 miles of perfect coastline, golden sand and palm trees and, if you somehow get tired of the beach, there’s an interesting turtle sanctuary for you to enjoy.

Barra Grande

Live in Buenos Aires!

One of the best places in the world for kite surfing, Barra Grande nonetheless remains an undiscovered gem. Nestled on the coast of Piauí, Barra Grande might be hard to get to, but that will only reinforce the feeling that you’ve stumbled across a lost paradise, away from the scores of tourists that populate Brazil’s more famous beaches.

Porto de Barra

Live in Buenos Aires!

Located within the city of Salvador de Bahia, Barra Port houses some of the best bars and restaurants in the city nearby its picture-perfect beach. Because of the vibrant nightlife in the area, Porto de Barra is a great place to come night or day, and special attention is paid to security to keep the area safe.

Guarajuba

Live in Buenos Aires!

Guarajuba is 18km from Praia de Forte and, like its more well-known neighbor, used to be a fishing village. Guarajuba, however, retains the fishing tradition in an area called Praia do Porto de Guarajuba, where the local fisherman are concentrated. The rest of the beach plays host to keen surfers and windsurfers, as well as land sports such as tennis and biking.

Ilha de Tinharé

Live in Buenos Aires!

Across the coast of Salvador is a small island called Ilha de Tinharé. A favorite amongst Salvador’s locals, the beaches here are some of the most beautiful in Brazil. There are five main beaches on the island, each very easy to reach and each with its own individual charm. We recommend you try the lobster at any of the seafood restaurants on the island – out of this world.
